VCC 10th anniv RWTo celebrate their 10th anniversary, Virginia Community Capital (VCC) is holding events across the Commonwealth throughout 2016. VCC held a lively gathering in Petersburg, Virginia on June 29, 2016. Impact Makers’ SVP, Business Strategy Rodney Willett was a featured speaker and talked about the main significance of the company: community impact. Rodney explained !m’s all-profits-to-charity model and the high community, social and environmental standards that B Corporations are held to.

The relationship between Impact Makers and VCC is unique. !m was a former client of VCC and in 2015 gifted part of the company’s equity ownership to VCC to fund support for social enterprise and community initiatives.

On June 2nd starting at 8 a.m. B Corps from all over the East Coast filed into the New School on the corner of 6th Ave and West 13th Street in New York City to participate in BLD (pronounced BUILD): A B Lab organized one-day event that focuses on B Corp Leadership Development.

Vincent Stanley, Director of Philosophy at Patagonia, set the tone for the day of valuable conversations and workshops. His keynote speech touched on highlights and critical lessons the company encountered during its journey as an early mission-driven business. more


On Thursday, May 26, 2016, Impact Makers participated in the first-ever White House Foster Care and Technology Hackathon (#WHFosterYouth and #HackFosterCare) in Washington, DC.

The White House, the US Department of Health and Human Services, and Think of Us hosted this event during National Foster Care Month. This inaugural hackathon brought together child welfare leaders, non-profit organizations, philanthropies, attorneys, and foster care families and alumni, as well as engineers, technologists and other leaders from the technology sector to discuss innovative approaches to improving the foster care system through the use of technology and best practices. more



On the evening of Wednesday May 18, 2016, Impact Makers hosted Startup Journeys – an event series organized by Lighthouse Labs to feature local startups and their entrepreneurial journeys. Around 90 people mixed and mingled at Impact Makers when Todd Nuckols – Founding Director of Lighthouse Labs – kicked off the event. Impact Makers’ CFO Will Thompson welcomed everyone to the !m office, gave a brief overview of what !m does and how, as a B Corp, we help the community. more


What do you get when you take 20 Impact Makers, give them power tools and a couple in need? You get the opportunity to Have Fun and Make a Difference!

On April 30, 2016, 20 Impact Makers gathered to assist with Rebuilding Together’s Annual National Build Day. Rebuilding Together is a national organization that strengthens communities by assisting elderly and disabled homeowners to stay in their homes longer. The goal is to improve selected homes by making them warm, safe and dry. more

Participating B Corps included Impact Makers, Acorn Sign Graphics, Natural Organic Process Enterprises (NOPE), Rivanna Natural Designs, River City Comprehensive Counseling Services and Virginia Community Capital. more

Impact Makers’ Rodney Willett discussed the company and its social impact with a social entrepreneurship class at Virginia Tech on March 30, 2016. The class is offered through the university’s new Social Entrepreneurship Department of Management and led by adjunct professor Lisa Fournier, who also owns a benefit corporation. The class is composed of Virginia Tech upper classman and visiting students from The Telecom in France.
