The Peter Paul Development Center is a community center in the East End of Richmond that supports youth, families and seniors. In 2013, they worked with more than 130 students through their educational after-school program. They also provide programs for seniors and a food bank that serves 400-700 people a month.

Who is the Peter Paul Development Center?

Peter Paul Development Center is the oldest continually operating community center in Richmond’s East End. Their mission is to support the residents of the East End and educate its students, equipping them to serve as positive contributors to their family, community, and society.

What does the Peter Paul Development Center do? 

PPDC provides programs for youth and the community, including:

  • A transformative and academic-focused youth program that provides year-round support for at-risk children aged 7 to 18
  • After-school programs serving more than 130 youth, with homework assistance and lessons taught in small classes by certified teachers and based off nationally standardized assessments
  • An 8-week long summer camp that serves 90 children in grades 2-8 that includes academics, nutritional meals, transportation, reading and recreation
  • Twice-weekly senior programs that include lunch, exercise, activities, field trips and more
  • Serves as a distribution site for the Central Virginia Food Bank twice a month, reaching more than 700 individuals

Who does the Peter Paul Development Center serve?

PPDC serves children, students, families, neighbors and seniors of Richmond’s East End.

The children served by PPDC’s Youth Program reside in one of the most economically disadvantaged areas of the City of Richmond. Children raised in this environment are at great risk of poor academic performance, behavioral issues, truancy, and school dropout.

  • $35 – Sponsor a student for a day at PPDC in the After School Program
  • $81 – All transportation costs for one day
  • $175 – Sponsor a PPDC students for one week in the After School Program
  • $207 – Sponsor a PPDC student for one week of Summer Promise
  • $695 – Sponsor a PPDC student for one month in the After School Program
  • $1,653 – Sponsor a PPDC student for eight weeks of Summer Promise
  • $2,256 – Keep the lights on – a month’s worth of utility expense for PPDC
  • $6,257 – Sponsor a PPDC student for one academic year in the After School Program
